A Johnstown Institution

History of Millers

Our Roots

Miller’s Clothing historically opened its doors in July of 1890 at 525 Main Street in Johnstown, PA where it still stands and operates to this very day. Founded by local businessman Maurice Miller, Miller’s began as a better men’s and boy’s clothing store in the heart of downtown Johnstown. Some years later, Maurice passed down the legacy he had built to his son, Robert Miller who continued his family tradition until his death. It was at this time that Bob’s General Manager would come to an agreement with the Miller family to purchase the storied clothing store.

Growth & Evolution

So, in 1968 H.J. Clark purchased Millers and immediately began to act on his vision for the store. He began with a complete renovation of the building, including expanding the showroom area and bringing in a more modern aesthetic. He also expanded the business from suits, sportscoats, dress and casual wear by purchasing the former American Tailoring and Tuxedo also located on Main Street and rebranding it with the Millers name in 1994. Since then, H.J.’s son Randy Clark has been the owner, operator and tailor for the business since the early 2000’s, with his son Taylor coming into the business in 2015. In that same year, Randy saw that it was once again time for a change and a revamping of the brand, the building and our image.

Today & Beyond

Just over a decade ago now, Millers went through its most extensive renovation in its history – expanding the show room, adding new dressing rooms, adding an extensive system of new lighting and adding all new modern amenities to help us better assist our customers. Altogether, two generations of Millers and three generations of Clark’s have owner and operated our clothing store during its 136-year tenure. Today, we are just as committed to providing our customers with the very best service, products and value. Miller’s has been and will always remain…”The place to go for the names you know!”
